Preventive Dentistry in Turkey Prevent first, intervene only when needed

Preventive dentistry aims to take action before tooth decay and gum disease develop: personalized oral-hygiene education, regular check-ups, professional cleaning, caries risk assessment and early follow-up. The goal is to get ahead of more extensive and irreversible treatments. Our core principle is clear.

Your preventive plan is determined by an examination — based on your age, oral-hygiene habits and risk profile. No plan or price is confirmed before that.

What is it

What is preventive dentistry?

Preventive dentistry is an approach that prioritizes protecting health rather than intervening once disease has appeared. It focuses not on treatment but on maintaining oral health; not every procedure is necessary, and where a procedure is needed it should be done with the least possible intervention.

At the centre of this approach is a personalized risk assessment. Individual applications such as scaling or fissure sealants are only parts of the whole; what really matters is correctly reading each patient's own risk profile. The same prescription does not suit everyone: who needs which preventive step, and how often, is determined by this assessment.

Long-term clinical studies have reported that professional fluoride varnish application reduced caries in permanent teeth by an average of 43% (Cochrane systematic review, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2013). The result varies from person to person depending on caries risk, application frequency and oral care.

"Often, the best treatment is no intervention at all."

Where healthy tooth structure can be preserved, prevention and follow-up are considered before any irreversible procedure. That is the foundation of our approach: prevent first, and intervene only when needed.

Approach pyramid

The order of priority in a preventive approach

In preventive dentistry, steps are planned in a priority order: least-intervention steps first, and operative treatment only when needed.

Priority least intervention first What it involves
1 · Oral-hygiene education Correct brushing, flossing, interdental cleaning
2 · Non-invasive applications Professional cleaning (scaling / polishing), tartar control, caries risk assessment
3 · Minimally invasive applications Fissure sealants, early-lesion monitoring, minimal resin
4 · Operative dentistry Intervention only when necessary
Who it's for & scope

Who is it for, and what does it cover?

A preventive approach suits every age group; the plan is shaped by the individual's risk profile.

Suitable for every age group; it is especially effective in children, in people at high caries risk, and in anyone who wants to protect their gum health. The plan is built not on a standard list but on a personalized risk assessment. This assessment reads the following factors together: the current state of the mouth, the rate of new decay over the last three years, the structure and quantity of saliva, dietary habits, daily and social habits, medications used and general health. Based on the resulting risk level, which preventive steps are needed and — where treatments have been carried out — how often check-ups/follow-up should occur are determined separately for each patient.

Non-invasive applications
Preserving, without touching any tooth structure.
  • Oral-hygiene education
  • Regular check-ups and early diagnosis
  • Professional cleaning (scaling / polishing)
  • Plaque and tartar control
  • Caries risk assessment
Minimally invasive applications
When needed, with the least possible intervention.
  • Fissure sealants (especially children / young people)
  • Early-lesion monitoring
  • Minimal resin applications
  • Small, targeted restorations
Conservative approach

Why we prioritize prevention first

Through regular check-ups and early diagnosis, small problems are resolved before they grow; this reduces the need for more extensive, irreversible and lengthy treatments.

Our approach
Not every procedure is necessary; the procedure that is necessary should be done with the least intervention.

Our core principle is to carry out irreversible procedures only when they are genuinely needed. Which procedure is genuinely needed is shown by a personalized risk assessment. The aim is for the patient to maintain their oral health outside the clinic too. When a small problem is resolved early before it grows, the more extensive treatment that might otherwise be needed later is also avoided.

The process

How a preventive plan works — before you travel, in Antalya and back home

Which step happens where, so you know before you travel. The plan becomes a personalized follow-up plan based on your risk profile.

Before you travel
1

Remote assessment

Share photos of your teeth, your history and what concerns you. We give an initial, honest view of your situation — no plan is confirmed remotely.

2

Plan & expectations

We agree what is realistic and what to expect — no plan is confirmed without an in-person examination.

In Antalya
3

Examination & personalized risk analysis

This step is at the centre of the process: the current state of the mouth, the rate of new decay in recent years, saliva structure, diet and daily habits, medications used and general health are assessed together to determine your individual risk level.

4

Oral-hygiene education

A brushing technique, interdental cleaning and daily-care habits suited to your risk profile are planned together.

5

Preventive applications, as needed

Where needed, non-invasive professional cleaning (scaling / polishing) and minimally invasive steps are applied — only as much as the plan requires.

Back home
6

Personalized follow-up plan

Based on your risk level and — where treatment has been carried out — the situation afterwards, your check-up/follow-up frequency is set individually. You can stay in contact remotely.

Why it matters

The benefit of a preventive approach

The aim is for the patient to maintain their oral health outside the clinic too, and for problems to be caught early.

Early diagnosis

Small problems are caught before they grow, so simpler solutions are enough.

Less irreversible treatment

Regular follow-up reduces the need for extensive, irreversible treatment.

Sustainable health

Once daily-care habits are established, oral health is maintained outside the clinic too.

Results

About before & after images

Results are individual and vary from person to person. We publish before/after images only with each patient's explicit written consent and under the advertising rules of your home country — with no filters or editing. That is why you will not find a stock gallery here: we would rather show you real, relevant examples on request than a set of anonymous, over-edited photos.

Individual results vary. Any images are shared only where the patient has given explicit written consent and the legal conditions of the target country are met.

FAQ

Common questions

The general recommendation is at least one or two check-ups a year; however, the frequency is set individually according to your caries risk, gum condition and oral hygiene. Regular check-ups are the most effective way to catch problems early.
No — carried out correctly by a dental professional, cleaning removes plaque and tartar without harming the enamel; mild, temporary sensitivity can occur. It is a non-invasive procedure that protects gum health.
A fissure sealant — especially in children and young people — seals the grooves on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth with a protective material to reduce the risk of decay. It is a minimally invasive preventive application.
A caries risk assessment is a process that evaluates, on an evidence basis, a patient's likelihood of developing decay in the future. Factors such as the current state of the mouth, the rate of new decay in recent years, the structure and quantity of saliva, dietary habits, daily care and social habits, medications used and general health are assessed together. Based on the resulting risk level, preventive applications and check-up frequency are planned individually for each patient — so instead of the same prescription for everyone, a protection strategy suited to the individual is established.
Minimally invasive dentistry is the principle of treating with the least possible tissue loss, preserving healthy tooth structure and intervening only as much as needed. It focuses first on prevention and early diagnosis; and when a procedure is required, the most conservative method that leaves as much healthy enamel in place as possible is preferred. The aim is to protect the natural structure of the tooth over the long term and reduce the need for irreversible, extensive procedures.
